Dr. Simon Mangcwatywa – Principal Executive Officer


Dr. Simon Mangcwatywa holds an MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery), from the University of Cape Town, which he completed in 2001. Prior to joining Sizwe Medical Fund, he was the Executive Medical Director at Adcock Ingram. He served as Head of Medical Affairs and Business Development at Litha Pharma. He held dual roles at Novartis SA as the portfolio Regional Manager for Africa, Middle East & China and Head of Scientific Operations. Dr. Mangcwatywa has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and allied industries, having fulfilled various roles in his career including executive management, business development, market access, clinical marketing, medical advisory and scientific operations.

Mr. Vusi Mbonani – Chief Financial Officer


Mr Mbonani completed his Articles of Clerkship in 1988 with the then Riceman & Company. He has been in the Medical Aid Industry for twenty four years having joined Sizwe Medical Services (now Sechaba Medical Solutions ) in April 1990 as an Assistant Accountant and leaving in 2014 as an Executive Director (CFO). He was a Director at Sechaba Group Holdings P/L until 2014.

Mr Vusi Mbonani holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree from the University of The North (now Limpopo). He is a member of the South African Institute of Professional Accountants and the Institute of Directors of South Africa (IoDSA).

Ms. Vuyo Xaxa (Compliance Executive)

Ms. Vuyokazi Xaxa holds B. Iuris degree from the University of the Western Cape; LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from the then University of Natal (now University of KwaZulu-Natal); Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Law from the then Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg). In 2015 she completed an intensive Executive Leadership Development programme through Henley Business School. She is an admitted attorney. Prior to joining Sizwe Medical Fund, Ms. Xaxa was with Denel SOC Ltd as the Group Company Secretary and Head of Legal. Her other roles include, Executive Manager: Legal and Compliance at Denel Dynamics, a division of Denel SOC Ltd; Company Secretary at National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) and Board Secretary at the National Gambling Board.

Dr. Odwa Mazwai (Clinical and Operations Executive)

Dr. Odwa Mazwai has extensive clinical experience and integrates this with public health, health economics and health policy knowledge. He is qualified with an MBChB from Walter Sisulu Medical School in 2003. He served as a medical officer in the public sector in Gauteng earning his Diploma in Anaesthesiology from Wits.

He worked at the National Department of Health as a Technical Advisor in the office of the Director-General. Here, he served to provide input on health policy planning to assist various directorates align their strategy to align to proposed NHI initiatives.

Dr. Mazwai later joined Medscheme and served as a General Manager in the Government Employees’ Medical Scheme (GEMS) Business Unit, directing fund management and assisting in operations. He remains excited about the changes that are on the horizon for healthcare in South Africa and believes the ripples of these changes will permeate through the continent for the better.
